"THREE SQUARE MEALS" 1988
SITE / Palo Alto CA. Co-operative grocery store entrance
In 1988 a Co-Op Supermarket in Palo Alto commissioned me to create a sculpture using any food item they stock. I decided on individual boxes of Gerber's baby food. 13,000 boxes and 3 shopping carts formed 3 Square meals . They were suspended from the ceiling outdoors at the store entryway. The work was greatly influenced by my skid row studio habitat in San Francisco where homeless people wheeled around shopping carts looking for their next meal.
